Krystyna ANDRYSZKIEWICZ (ur. 1955, Gdańsk)

Coffin Portrait from the Interior with an Imprisoned One series

1980/1982
gelatin silver print, shape of a coffin portrait, 37 × 35.3 cm,
signed, dated and titled on the reverse
vintage print

In her works for the Interior with an Imprisoned One series, Andryszkiewicz often used frontal composition, willing to emphasize in her models the most meaningful elements - the face and the hands. Her idea was to highlight the strong and living relationships of the humans of today with yesterday, with the past. The work invokes an important element of Polish art, i.e. the coffin portrait, which was a portrait variety characteristic of the Polish nobility.
Award for the series: gold medal of the Gdańsk Photographic Society (1983).
