The author about the series: "The railway station in Katowice used to be one of the finest examples of brutalist architecture in Poland. However, as long as I can remember, it was just a strange and intriguing place to me: fear mixed with fascination there and the people you passed by in the corridors were not like those you meet in city streets. Knowing that the railway station would be demolished, I started to photograph it six months before it was shut down. However, I did not merely intend to document its architecture. From the very start I aimed to capture the atmosphere of the place as created by the people."
Awards: the series - still known as The Brut - was shortlisted in the Mio Photo Award, Osaka (2010) and Magnum Expression Award (2011) competitions. The Brutal book was awarded the title of the Photographic Publication of 2013 in the Selfpublishing category at the Fotofestiwal in Łódź.
