The presented photograph reveals the behind-the-scenes work of photographers shooting for the most important fashion magazines. The picture was created in France; it depicts an unidentified photographer preparing his camera to capture the marvellous Bettina Graziani, famous French model, one of the first muses of Hubert de Givenchy. The artist who created the work was in turn one of the greatest and most versatile American photographers and the first black photographer working for Vogue magazine, Gordon Parks. For many years, Parks photographed also for Life Magazine and it is precisely for this publication that the presented picture was taken. The artist combined photographing celebrities and models clad in the most fashionable outfits with his engagement in the Civil Rights Movement: his photographs highlighted the racial segregation of the American society. Furthermore, the problem of segregation constituted the subject of Parks's films, including The Learning Tree (1969). In the summer of 2017, Zacheta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw showed his solo exhibition entitled I Use My Camera as a Weapon.
