For years, beaches have been among Kacper Kowalski`s favourite themes. However, in capturing their sunny scenery, Kowalski can be allusive and satirical, if not altogether cynical. To date, the artist has exclusively exhibited documentary photographs. Beach #7 is the first work in his new series in which he composes supersized images, actually creating beach landscapes. The pictures are not a straightforward record of reality, but represent Kowalski`s vision. While retaining the unity of time and place, the author treats the actual picture of a beach in Władysławowo as source material for producing imaginary scenes.
The shot was taken over exactly the same spot where Kowalski made his Day on the Beach series, which won 2nd prize in the World Press Photo contest in 2009 (Arts and Entertainment - story).
Work No. 1 of this edition is owned by a private Polish collector, and No. 3 will première on 31 October in Paris at the La Quatrieme Image exhibition, l`Espace des Blancs-Manteaux.
