When producing his spatial forms or documentary series Smoczyński demonstrated an excellent sense of the place where he was working. He sought ways of expressing the perpetual dialogue between the realness of the space, materials, processes, and his own experience. His photographs only seemingly address form alone. In fact, they have very strong spiritual and metaphysical overtones, which often tend to come to the fore.
