from the Photosynthesis series
1988/1991
gelatin silver print, 45 x 30.5 cm (52.5 x 38.5 cm),
signed "KPruszkowski," dated and titled on the front
Pruszkowski produced this work using his own original technique whereby he photographs the same motif over and over again to obtain a synthetic image. The motifs he explores in his art range from landscapes to portraits to famous works of art, as is the case here. The picture of the Nike of Samothrace sculpture from the Louvre is one of the best-known works from his Photosynthesis portfolio.
This picture has been widely shown in Poland and abroad, and reproduced in many books and catalogues featuring Photosynthesis.
Other prints of this photograph are in the collections of the National Museums in Warsaw and Wrocław, Musée de l’Élysée in Lausanne, WM Photography Gallery in Amsterdam.
