The photograph comes from a series completed in Japan in 1991-2008. Wieteska combined in it two different conventions: subjective document and conceptual photography. As the photographer himself explains: "The pictures tell a story about the human condition at the turn of the 21st century in the ultra modern reality of the Japanese megalopolis. The meeting between the past and future, which is noticeable at every turn, creates an exceptionally vivid dichotomy, where one person exists as if he/she was two persons. When photographing the thus arranged reality, I tried to capture the tension between the two worlds and the area of emptiness between them."
